Engine installation instructions

Guidelines for the purchaser and professional automotive workshop.

01

Formal workshop requirements

Professional standards

The engine must be installed by an authorised professional automotive workshop in accordance with the procedures and technical specifications of the relevant manufacturer.

Service documentation

The workshop performing the service must issue a VAT invoice or receipt in the purchaser’s name, clearly itemising the labour and all new parts and operating fluids used.

02

Mandatory steps before installation and start-up

Before the supplied power unit is started for the first time, the workshop must carry out all of the following steps.

A. Inspection and replacement of the timing drive

  • New timing-drive kit: immediately before installation, inspect and replace the complete timing drive without exception: timing belt or chain together with tensioners, guide pulleys, sprockets and water pump, depending on the engine type.
  • Valve timing: inspect and correctly set the valve timing using the manufacturer’s dedicated locking tools.

B. Replacement of operating fluids and filters

  • New fluids: fill the engine with fresh engine oil meeting the vehicle manufacturer’s specification and fill the cooling system with new coolant.
  • Complete filter set: the oil, fuel and air filters must all be replaced.

C. Priming and bleeding the oil system

Before any test start, the main oil gallery must be filled with oil and the lubrication system fully bled. Use one of the following two methods.

Option 1

Professional procedure

Using an external pressure vessel, force oil into the engine through a threaded connection in the pressurised lubrication system, for example an oil-gallery plug provided by the manufacturer or the oil-pressure sensor port. Continue pumping until oil emerges at the lubrication points furthest from the oil pump, usually the camshaft bearings or rocker arms. While priming the lubrication system, turn the engine by hand in its normal direction of rotation. Ensure that the oil level in the supply vessel never falls below the minimum; if air is drawn into the system, repeat the entire procedure.

Option 2

Standard procedure

Fill with oil as specified by the manufacturer and fit a new oil filter. Turn the crankshaft by hand clockwise, or crank the engine with the starter while the fuel supply is disconnected, until oil appears at the highest lubrication point, for example at the rocker arms, turbocharger oil feed or cylinder-head oil-pressure sensor port.

The engine may be started only after oil physically emerges at the highest lubrication point.

D. Bleeding the cooling system

After filling with new coolant, bleed the vehicle cooling system fully and correctly to prevent air locks and cylinder-head overheating.

03

Initial start-up and mandatory video evidence

The workshop carrying out the installation must record video evidence that the required procedures were performed correctly. The recordings are mandatory for a warranty claim to be considered.

  1. 1

Oil-system video: record the priming and bleeding process, showing oil emerging at the highest lubrication point before start-up.

  2. 2

Cooling-system video: record the bleeding process during the initial start-up and engine warm-up.

  3. 3

Computer diagnostics: once operating temperature has been reached, perform a full ECU diagnostic scan and retain the fault-memory report.

04

Absolute prohibitions and restrictions

Protection of sealing paint and seals

Neither the purchaser nor the workshop may disturb, remove, damage or alter the sealing paint on bolts, joints and screws, or any physical seals fitted to the engine.

No unauthorised repairs or modifications

Without the Seller’s prior written or emailed consent, it is prohibited to dismantle the engine block, remove the cylinder head, carry out repairs, undo structural components or make modifications.

No chip tuning

The engine must not be operated with unlicensed or modified ECU software. In the event of a claim, the Seller may require the ECU to be supplied for inspection.

Failure to comply with the above prohibitions may result in the loss of statutory defect-liability rights and rejection of the claim.

05

Documentation required for a claim

In the event of a technical fault, a claim must be submitted exclusively through the claim form on our website. The following must be attached:

  • A VAT invoice or workshop receipt in the purchaser’s name, itemising the labour, new parts and fluids used.
  • Video recordings of oil-system priming and cooling-system bleeding.
  • The ECU computer-diagnostic scan report.
  • A declaration confirming that all engine oil and coolant have been completely drained before the engine is shipped on a pallet for a claim.

The sender is liable for any fluid leakage during transport and any resulting carrier penalties.
